After controversy surrounding Patrick Bamford’s red card in Leeds United’s victory, QPR’s manager provides “verification”.
Gareth Ainsworth, the manager of Queens Park Rangers, has’verification’ from Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford that Asmir Begovic, who was dismissed in stoppage time, did not foul him.
Both players have confirmed to me that there was no contact. Patrick is a lovely kid; he jumped out of the referee’s way thinking he had captured him. We’ll have to go to the decision-makers at QPR to see whether we can appeal that, but perhaps we can have one reversed. Asmir has been fantastic for me this season, so I feel terrible for him.
When a ball dropped for Lyndon Dykes near the penalty spot, Ainsworth’s team had a chance to tie the score. However, they made a fight of it in the second half with long balls hammered into the box. The Scotland striker hooked for goal, but Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier made a crucial save.
“I’m an eternal optimist,” Ainsworth declared.
“If we could have improved on our crosses or the finishing touch, I believed we had a few opportunities later on. Leeds had a ton of money on the line, and the huge club had a packed house on a Wednesday. We anticipated having to put in a lot of effort. We weren’t as strong on the ball as in previous games, which disappointed me. Despite some excellent performance, we weren’t really able to control the ball.
“Asmir made one outstanding save in the first half, and I don’t believe he was particularly tested in the second half. With that goal, it was one poor mistake that cost us early. Daniel concluded by saying that playing against your teams is always extremely difficult. I must accept his praise and convey it to the players. We were going to attempt to level even with 10 men. It’s hard to go to Elland Road.
In our time, there have been a few incidents where two or three buildings fell in quick succession. They gave their everything. I requested a little more output from them. I desired a more commitment workrate. The last frontier is there. We delivered that tonight, but the quality of the ball was something we lost. We’ll likely place far higher than most anticipate, in my opinion.
