Former Newcastle United player, was in high spirits tonight after his old club thrashed Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Joey Barton has maintained his love for Newcastle since leaving the club, and today he was commenting on social media like a loyal fan.

Few expected the Magpies to win 4-1 tonight, but Joey Barton had a good feeling at halftime, tweeting: “PSG are playing uphill 2nd half.” @NUFC descending to the Gallowgate (metaphorically and metaphorically). The Toon may give these a good thrashing here, especially if PSG’s front players don’t track back.”

Joey Barton was obviously pleased to see Elliot Anderson on the field.
Barton applauded the goals as they came in and, of course, had something to say when Elliot Anderson entered the game.

Anderson, of course, played for Bristol Rovers under Joey Barton, earning the nickname “Geordie Maradona.”

Barton clearly still has feelings for Newcastle.
Then, at the end of the game, Barton retweeted the official Newcastle Twitter message recognizing Fabian Schar’s stunning strike, which made the score 4-1, and added, “What a night!” The Toon Army couldn’t have done better. It’s great to see those CL nights returning at St James’.”

I adore seeing Barton tweet about the Toon with such enthusiasm. He was a player who you hated when he wasn’t on your team but loved when he was, and he had some amazing moments in a black and white shirt that he clearly remembers.

I’m still reeling from what happened, and posts like this make the reality sink in.
