He ended up staying at Betis because his wife was pregnant and he wanted to avoid any upheaval, but a decision has to be made moving forwards as his deal is still expiring.

Indeed, we’ve covered reports stating Betis are working out a new deal with him that will include a release clause for the likes of Nottingham Forest next summer.

That’s a subject Rodriguez has now been questioned on, with podcast host Sandra de la Vega, who is the wife of teammate Andres Guardado, asking him “Are you staying at Betis for how many more years?” before her husband interrupted and said they couldn’t discuss it.

Undeterred she asked, “but you signed, didn’t you?” to which the midfielder answered “no it ends this year” before adding more detail.

“I was going to leave, well, the transfer market was very mixed… but I now have this year left on my contract, when this tournament ends my contract ends, but hey, we are there seeing what happens,” he said.

“Life is good here, we are well on the team, we have a good group… I think the baby will be born here, by the end of February or beginning of March, we will have a Sevillian.”
