Saudi Pro League Chief Says Mohamed Salah Is A “Personal Favourite” Of His.

Michael Emenalo, the Saudi Pro League’s director of football, has confessed a personal fondness for Liverpool’s star forward Mohamed Salah, stoking concerns about future bids for the player.

Al-Ittihad offered Liverpool £150 million verbally but it was rejected immediately by both Liverpool and Salah.

After rejecting interest from Saudi, the world class attacker recommitted himself to Anfield in the summer but fans are aware of the inevitability of his departure.

Now 31, he has seen both Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino depart the club, his future at Liverpool is one of major discussion.

Mohamed Salah: The prize target for the Saudi Pro League

Speaking to TZ, the Saudi Pro League director of football Michael Emenalo discussed his desire for Mohamed Salah to leave Liverpool.

He said: “Mo is welcome at any time, but no one is pressured or forced to come,” Emenalo said.

“If anyone wants to come here and there is an opportunity to work with the transferring club in a very respectful and professional manner, we would be very happy to have them.

“But Mo is a personal favourite of mine.”

Liverpool are faced with the prospect of losing Salah in the next two years and there’s little anyone can do about it.

His contract expires in 2025, giving FSG and Jurgen Klopp a choice between selling at the end of the current season or keeping him in the summer and letting him leave for free when his terms expire.

It will be a devastating day when the no.11 finally leaves and given that the only solution is to offer him another contract extension, his departure really is inevitable.

Since 2018, Salah has scored and assisted a mind-boggling 275 goals – a tally that ranks him third, behind Thierry Henry and Sergio Aguero, for the most goal contributions since 1999.
