The Aston Villa playmaker faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a major injury during training just a few days before the Premier League season kicked off. Buendia has since undergone surgery but will not be returning to action anytime soon.

“There is less left to return.”

Aston Villa are back in action on Sunday when they take on Luton Town at Villa Park.

Unai Emery’s men will be looking to keep up the pressure on the Premier League elites against a Hatters side who have just one win to their name so far this term, struggling to adapt to the top-flight.

Villa head into this one in good spirits, too, having comfortably seen off AZ Alkmaar in the Europa Conference League, while they also defeated West Ham by the same 4-1 score-line last weekend to continue their fine start to the season. Here we round up all the latest injury news surrounding Villa ahead of Sunday’s Villa Park clash. Emi Buendia is out until the new year after surgery.
