With the departure of the Forest Academy alumnus for a club-record contract, Steve Cooper lost one of his most important first-team players.

Still, it appears that the Reds may have already signed the ideal Welshman’s replacement.

This summer, Cooper and his group paid £15 million to acquire winger Anthony Elanga from rival Premier League team Manchester United.

It appears that Elanga is the ideal Johnson substitute.
The 21-year-old has only been with the team for a few months, but he has already shown the Reds supporters his abilities.

With his direct dribbling and pace catching the eye, the “electric” wideman has already tallied one goal and three assists in his first ten games for the Reds.

Although he has only been used as an impact player for Forest thus far, his performances have encouraged supporters.

In the 2-2 draw with Luton Town, he recorded his best performance to date with two assists for Chris Wood thanks to his deft footwork and straightforward play with the ball.

Early days but positive signs from Elanga

At just 21 years old the future looks very bright for Elanga at Forest. Cooper clearly values him as a player and hopefully, he can continue putting in the performances.

The player signed from United has box office attributes and he will be keen to make a name for himself now. His two assists against Luton was an example of what he’s capable of and there is definitely more to come.

With the recent injury to fellow winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, Elanga is getting a real opportunity to showcase what he’s capable of as a starter rather than an impact player.
