Giants of Serie A Roma passed up the opportunity to sign Santos attacker Marcos Leonardo, and Newcastle United is now after the Brazilian.

Roma was eager to sign the 20-year-old in the summer, but they were unable to come to terms with Santos’ demands, and in the end, they signed Romelu Lukaku and Sardar Azmoun.

According to Marco Conterio, unless they move one of Andrea Belotti or Azmoun in January, Roma has given up on pursuing Leonardo. The Giallorossi’s chances of making a bid for the 20-year-old during the winter transfer window appear slim as of right now.

Newcastle is considering making a move for Leonardo in January after expressing interest in him. The striker is open to leaving as well in January; the Brazilian team is now ranked 15th in the table after a challenging season.

In a dismal campaign for Santos overall, Leonardo has scored 13 goals and provided two assists in 24 games.
