Ian Wright has slammed Jordan Pickford for his exploits as Everton and Brighton played out a 1-1 draw over the weekend.

The Toffees looked like they were set to secure three points, but an Ashley Young own goal saw the Seagulls come away with a point from Goodison Park.

A lot has been made of Pickford’s position and whether or not he could’ve reacted to the wicked deflection better.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Wright said (05/11, 13:32), “One of those you have to feel sorry for Ashley Young. Takes the blame for that. I see where the keeper is at. He’s got to do better.”

Wright cannot say that he feels sorry for Young as the full-back was being terrorised by Mitoma during the game.

He was in the wrong place at the wrong time and that’s slightly unlucky but he should not have been on the pitch in the first place.

Pickford does not know that the ball is going to be deflected otherwise he would’ve set up better and would’ve been able to hit the ball out of play.

With Seamus Coleman now back and Nathan Patterson still available, Sean Dyche needs to consider his options instead of starting Young.

The Englishman has just not been up to it and it’s hard to blame him as full-back is a demanding role and he’s aged 38.

His best days are past him and he was brought in just as cover in multiple roles rather than being a regular starter for the Toffees.
