Ange Postecoglou provided an update on James Maddison and Micky van de Ven following their forced substitutions due to injuries sustained during our Monday night 4-1 loss to Chelsea.

Shortly after Maddison collapsed in the box, clutching his ankle, van de Ven appeared to be in severe pain mid-run, grabbing the back of his leg. At the end of the first half, two minutes into additional time, both were taken off the field.

In his post-match press conference, Ange stated, “It’s too early, but looking at Micky, you’re thinking it’s a pretty significant one, so you’d assume he’ll be out for a little while.” Ange told the Review Show that van de Ven’s condition “looked quite significant.” Madders took a knock to the ankle; we’ll merely need to examine him to determine the situation.

We lost Cuti Romero (straight red) and Destiny Udogie (two yellow cards) to red cards after we got off to such a strong start on a memorable night in N17, with Dejan Kulusevski giving us the lead. This left us with ten men at the 32nd minute and nine at the 55th. It took Chelsea twenty more minutes to take the lead. After that, we had three excellent opportunities: Eric Dier’s goal was disallowed for offside, Rodrigo Bentancur’s close-range header went wide, and Heung-Min Son forced a last-minute low save from Robert Sanchez. Eventually, Chelsea won the match in extra time.
