Tottenham Hotspur are now considering a January move for forgotten Everton defender Ben Godfrey after holding long-term interest.

That’s according to 90min who shared that several Premier League clubs including Newcastle United are now monitoring the defender’s future. And with Everton willing to listen to offers, there certainly could be movement in January.

Although heavily affected by injury, Godfrey’s demise at Everton in recent years has been quite surprising. The defender looked to have a fledgling England career ahead and was a key name under Carlo Ancelotti.

Fast forward to now and Godfrey is now fourth choice under Sean Dyche. Therefore, Godfrey making a January switch from Everton to Tottenham could suit all parties.

Tottenham are considering a move for Everton’s Godfrey in January

Although Godfrey has had a difficult year or so, Postecoglou may be the perfect manager to revitalise his game. And if Spurs have lost one extremely quick centre-back to injury in van de Ven, they may have found a suitable replacement.

Ben Godfrey has often been described as ‘rapid’ by his teammates who declared him the fastest player at Everton a few years ago. Perhaps the only sticking point in the deal between Everton and Tottenham would be deciding a fee for Godfrey.

The England international arrived for a fee of £25m from Norwich City in 2020, and Everton may be reluctant to accept a loss. Perhaps a loan move would be possible, but that is unlikely to help Sean Dyche’s side. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how Spurs approach January, as it does seem that strong recruitment is needed.
