With a convincing victory over Young Boys, Manchester City guaranteed their spot in the Champions League knockout stages, but there was not all positive news for Pep Guardiola’s team.

Following Manchester City’s Champions League triumph over Young Boys, Pep Guardiola alarmed supporters of the team with an update on John Stones’ health.

Prior to the match at the Etihad Stadium, City had won three of their previous four games. Erling Haaland, City’s top scorer, scored twice after bouncing back from an injury, while Phil Foden also found the net as they extended their European title defence.

If it weren’t for a few injuries, the evening could have been deemed ideal. After the match, the manager gave the most recent information on Stones and fellow centre defender Manuel Akanji, who both experienced setbacks.

“Manuel had a problem in the back and what happened meant he was out,” Guardiola explained. “Unfortunately, John is absent once more. He has demonstrated such dedication, and his departure will be greatly missed. I am really sorry for him. John is quite significant in his work.

“But yeah, recover, the season is long and he will be back stronger.” The manager answered “Yeah, I think so” when asked if he thought Stones would be out for a time.

Guardiola and City, who defeated Bournemouth 6-1 on Saturday to take back the top spot in the Premier League, are dealing with a setback at an inconvenient time. They have three league games left: a trip to Chelsea on Sunday, followed by matches against Liverpool, Tottenham, and Aston Villa.

“Of course we are incredibly happy to have qualified with two games left,” Guardiola told TNT Sports after his team’s victory.”Finish first. We have time to think about it.

“Maybe we were not… clinical is not the right word… not clear, sweet, soft enough in the last moment to score more goals. But I love to see the team.

“The word that define this group of players for many years is the consistency. We have high standards and and that is why we are still in the Premier League up there and qualified from the Champions League.
