Transfer Rumour: Florian Wirtz of Leverkusen is being eyed by Liverpool
According to The Daily Star, Florian Wirtz, an attacking midfielder for Bayer Leverkusen, is drawing more and more attention from Liverpool. The gifted 20-year-old is being considered by several teams, including Chelsea, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich; nevertheless, Liverpool is currently making an offer for the player, who is valued at £80 million.
The German international, who has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season with six goals and nine assists, is highly regarded by Jurgen Klopp. The Reds manager thinks he could be able to replace Mohamed Salah should the Egyptian go; if Saudi Arabia extends its offers, the 31-year-old may exit in June.
Even though Liverpool already has a lot of depth up front, Klopp’s connections and reputation in Germany make it certain that they can be serious contenders if they recruit a player of Wirtz’s level. However, if Bayer Leverkusen is still in the running for the Bundesliga title—they sit atop, two points ahead of second-placed Bayern Munich—the odds of landing the attacking talent in January are reportedly nonexistent.
Manchester United has expressed interest in Wirtz as well, but they are no longer in the running.
