After leaving Nottingham Forest in 2022, Brice Samba is currently competing in the Champions League alongside the best players in the continent. He was playing well last night, even though Lens lost to PSV 1-0.

Shortly after leaving his mark on the team’s history, the goalie left Forest in the summer of 2022. Samba won’t be forgotten for his incredible heroism when Forest defeated Sheffield United to get to the play-off final in 2021–2022.

These days, he frequently mingles with top athletes. He enabled Lens to mount a valiant championship challenge against PSG in the previous year, and as a result, they earned a Champions League spot.

Samba stars despite defeat for Lens

Samba, the Forest promotion winner, and his Ligue 1 team were defeated that evening thanks to a goal by Luuk de Jong. To make a terrible night even worse for the French team, Morgan Guilavogui was substituted in injury time.

With Arsenal and Sevilla still to play, Lens is now tied for first place in Group B with PSV. It is now up to Samba and his colleagues to regroup and work hard to get to the competition’s first round of eliminations.

Last night, Samba showcased the sort of form that often left Forest fans gobsmacked. Despite a defeat for his side, the six saves he made were enough for Sofa Score to award him the Man of the Match accolade.

Forest haven’t truly replaced Samba yet

To suggest that Forest hasn’t quite figured out their new Samba version just yet wouldn’t be too harsh. Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas started in goal for the Reds last season, but since they were both on loan, they weren’t really replacements.

Odysseas Vlachodimos is one player Forest may have found this season who can take Samba’s place. The Greek player made his team debut on Saturday when Matt Turner was benched.

Over the past two years, Forest has done a great job of recruiting, but some supporters believe the team should have done more to retain Samba after he left.

The athlete wanted to go, and maybe there was nothing they could do to keep him around. However, when Samba eventually did depart the team, Forest unquestionably needed to have looked for a more long-term replacement.
