Commentator for Sky Sports responds to dispute during Everton vs. Crystal Palace’s first half.
David Phillips responded to the call that resulted in Jarrad Branthwaite being granted a penalty against him during Everton’s match versus Crystal Palace.

Speaking on the Premier League globe broadcast (11/11, 15:07), the Sky Sports analyst thought it was soft enough for the referee to decide in favor of the hosts.

Eberechi Eze then took the penalty and scored, tying the score at one.

The way he [Eze] is able to control the ball, Phillips remarked. What’s up with Eze? doesn’t appear particularly bad. There, at the base of Eze, is Branthwaite, which you can just about make out.

Penalty, regrettably

Although the Everton players may have thought the call was contentious, it was carefully considered, and the referee made the correct judgment in the moment.

This is the issue with this team: despite having a solid start to the game, they eventually give up and lose the lead.

Sean Dyche would have been delighted with his team’s comeback after taking the lead, but scoring in the first 52 minutes would have been the ideal start for him.

The players alone can determine whether or not this is an attitude problem because it has happened to them before.

Branthwaite has performed admirably this season, and by putting his teammates in danger, he did something completely unnecessary.

Dyche will have given him a piece of his mind, but he’ll play better and hopefully learn from this error.
