Amadou Onana has spoken out about his future at Everton amid strong interest from Manchester United last summer.

The Belgian midfielder was heavily linked to Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United but the Old Trafford club never made the move for Amadou Onana, instead, they focused on signing Sofyan Amrabat.

At Everton under Sean Dyche, the midfielder has continued his good form for the Toffees and a move away from Goodison Park is looking more and more likely as time goes on.

After joining the Premier League from French side LOSC Lille, the midfielder has continued to impress so it may well be difficult getting him out of Merseyside next summer.

Onana on summer move

Speaking to Transfermarkt, the powerful midfielder has opened up about the interest in his services in the summer just gone.

“Clubs came knocking,” Onana revealed. “Everton gave me the chance to play my first games in the Premier League. I wanted to repay that.

“I am truly convinced that there are no upper limits for me. That doesn’t mean to sound arrogant. But I believe in my abilities and that I can come to a top club and become a regular player there.

“I try to read almost nothing about it (transfer rumours) and keep it as far away from me as possible. I just want to concentrate on what’s important.”

The Guardian linked Ten Hag’s United with a move for the 22-year-old midfielder and you wonder if they would come back in for him again next summer.

Onana’s profile

The Belgian midfielder joined Everton for £33 million in the summer of 2022 and the domineering Belgian already looks to be one of the best midfielders in the country.

His pace, energy, technical ability and strength make him a superb midfielder and one that United, with Casemiro facing questions over his future at the club, could be after.

The fee that Everton would demand for the midfielder could well be a stumbling block for any deal to materialise but he will surely be an option to replace the Brazilian next summer.
