Fabrizio Romano gives the latest on Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur have sent scouts to keep an eye on Feyenoord’s in-form striker Santiago Gimenez.

The fact of the matter is that Spurs sold Harry Kane in the summer transfer window and did not sign a replacement striker.

Richarlison has undergone pelvic surgery and faces time on the sidelines while James Maddison was injured in the 4-1 Premier League loss against Chelsea.

Son Heung-min isn’t getting any younger and while Brennan Johnson and Manor Solomon have been signed, they are still raw talents who have a lot left to prove. Keeping this in mind, Tottenham’s interest in the Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez makes a bucketload of sense.

Talking about Spurs’ interest in the player, Romano wrote on his CaughtOffside blog:“

We continue to have rumours about Santiago Gimenez, who is doing very well at Feyenoord – rumours about Chelsea and about Tottenham, but from what I can tell you, Tottenham sent their people to follow Gimenez multiple times, he’s going very well and scoring goals, but at the same time I’m hearing Chelsea are not making him a priority and are focusing on other players.”

If Spurs are scouting the player, then it has to be something in the rumours. We can really use a new striker, especially with Richarlison now being linked with a move to the Saudi Arabian league.

Tottenham Hotspur must fork out €100m to sign Real Madrid target Santiago Gimenez.

To say the 22-year-old is on fire is an understatement. He has scored 15 goals in 15 games across competitions this season and that return, at that age, will obviously attract the attention of other big teams.

Apart from Nicolas Jackson’s hat-trick against a nine-man team, he has struggled at Chelsea while Christopher Nkunku, who isn’t really a natural No. 9 to begin with, has been injured for a while. Hence, we have to watch out for the Blues’ interest in the player.

One can imagine that the Dutch side won’t just let their star player leave for a small amount.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to reinvigorate our title charge by signing a star striker mid-season.
