Everton began to fear to the worst about the fitness of Amadou Onana after the midfield was forced to withdraw from the Belgium national squad.
The 22-year-old has been one of Sean Dyche’s best players this season and he was linked with a move to an array of clubs in the summer. However, an injury could rule him out of Everton’s upcoming fixtures which includes Manchester United’s trip to Goodison Park.
The Liverpool Echo claims Onana left the Belgium national team after picking up a calf injury. As a result, the midfielder will not play a part in his team’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Azerbaijan on Sunday after missing Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Serbia.
It is important to remember that the severity of the injury is unknown and we must wait for Dyche to pass comment on it after the international break to know whether Onana will be available to face United on 26 November.
Onana missed Everton’s last game against Brighton due to the same knock.
This could come as an additional blow to Everton after being hit with a 10-point deduction for Premier League profit and sustainability rule breach.
