Glen Kamara missed a golden opportunity to put Leeds United 2-0 up in the first half at Rotherham United and Jon Newsome has blasted the summer signing – describing Kamara’s finish as “awful”.

Early on, Crysencio Summerville gave Leeds the lead 1-0 with his sixth goal of the year, sending a magnificent drive into the far corner following a superb assist from Georgie Rutter. Everything appeared excellent.

Leeds, though, was unable to build on their superiority in the first half.Kamara had the finest opportunity to double our lead, but Leeds reacted after a corner by Rotherham. Summerville led Leeds’ offensive line up the field.

On the overlap, Kamara. The £6 million player, who isn’t known for his scoring prowess and hasn’t scored for Leeds yet, might have found himself in strange circumstances. He pushed the ball into the side netting from eight yards out.

A really poor finish, in what was a golden chance for the Fin to not only open his account, but put Leeds into a 2-0 lead. Instead, Rotherham equalised towards the end of the first half. Newsome, not happy.

Speaking as co-commentator on BBC Radio Leeds, Newsome said: “That was so wasteful, it was four against two at one point. Summerville does fantastic, no one was catching him. It was an awful finish.”

It appeared as though Kamara was worn out from his overseas assignment. A respectable enough midfield display, but far short of the expectations he has placed on himself. Regarding the remaining ones, essentially the same can be said.

Leeds was a long way away. Maybe some of our players were affected in a lasting way by the international break. Not even players like Ethan Ampadu and Georgie Rutter were at their best. Kamara ought to win.
