Jon Newsome believes Joel Piroe is not having enough of an impact on matches for Leeds United at the moment.

Piroe played 90 minutes as Leeds were held to a 1-1 draw at Rotherham United in what was an extremely frustrating night in the first game after the international break.

But it is now just one goal in six matches for the 24-year-old and speaking on BBC Radio Leeds after the game, Newsome says he wants to see more from him.

Leeds had taken the lead at the New York Stadium inside seven minutes through Crysencio Summerville, but could not build on their lead and were punished on half-time.

Daniel Farke’s side then never really got going in the second 45 minutes and as such, Leeds missed a huge opportunity to close the gap on the top two before they play.

Leeds still not getting the best out of Piroe

Newsome believes that while Piroe can offer something with some of his link-up play, he is on the periphery of far too many matches.

He said: “I think he was in and out of the game, he’s got deft little touches, good on the ball at times and takes up some good positions. But he is not in the game, not effecting the game enough for me at the moment. If you’re not scoring goals, I’d like to see a bit more.”

Leeds are still continuing to not get the best out of Piroe and far too often at times against Rotherham he was picking up the ball too deep, where he is very ineffective.

When Piroe is not scoring goals, he is not offering enough to the team but ultimately, that could be down to tactics, where he is being told to get too involved with build-up.

That said, Piroe did have a fair few shots during the game as well that didn’t really get close to testing the ‘keeper, and that also needs to improve.
