Newcastle staff keep forgetting one thing about young star Lewis Miley

Lewis Miley put in a brilliant performance for Newcastle United against Chelsea on Saturday and the 17-year-old is now causing the staff to forget just how inexperienced he really is.

The biggest compliment you could give Miley was that he did not look out of place in Newcastle’s midfield and played a huge part in the 4-1 victory.

The Athletic are now reporting that Newcastle’s staff often forget how ‘green’ he is after watching his physical and athletic performances both in training and in games.

Miley makes history vs Chelsea

For such a young player, Miley has proven to have great awareness and composure at crucial moments in a match and has now etched his name in Newcastle’s history as the club’s youngest player to provide a Premier League assist.

The teenager set up Alexander Isak in the first-half with a brilliant pass in the box to the Swede which caught out every single Chelsea defender and led to the opening goal.

His athleticism, physicality and tactical awareness has caused Newcastle staff to forget that he only just turned 17 in May, and it is also why Eddie Howe believes he is the perfect kind of player to fit into his system.

It’s not exactly the way Howe would have liked to have introduced him to the first-team given all the injuries, but this experience will be invaluable to the young man going forwards.

It’s crazy to think that Miley could be at the heart of Newcastle’s midfield for the next decade and yet even after that he would still only be 27 and entering his physical prime.

Just as The Athletic reported, you do forget just quite how young 17 actually is and how impressive it is to see him taking this all in his stride and improving every game.

Under the guidance of Eddie Howe and with Bruno Guimaraes alongside him, Miley could be a serious talent long-term and could have a brilliant career at Newcastle if the staff can get his development right.

The tactical and mental awareness is naturally there, but he will have to fill out his 6ft 2 frame if he is to become a more dominant and physical midfielder in the Premier League.
