Neal Maupay sends two-word Instagram message to Abdoulaye Doucoure after Everton win v Nottingham Forest.

Neal Maupay sent a two-word message to Abdoulaye Doucoure after the midfielder played an important part for Everton in their 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest.

Doucoure played the full 90 minutes of Saturday’s (2 December) Premier League contest at the City Ground, where Dwight McNeil’s second-half goal proved the difference.

The Mali international took to Instagram not long after full-time in Nottingham with a picture of him celebrating the victory, which he captioned “Big W away from Home!!”

Maupay, who is on a season-long loan at Brentford from Everton, replied with “Mon frero”, which translates to “my brother” in English.

Helping hand

Doucoure was unable to register a goal or assist against Forest, but he still put in plenty of hard yards in what was a huge win for the Toffees.

The 30-year-old has been a key performer since Sean Dyche took over, with no Everton player registering more goals than him since January.

Using Doucoure in a more advanced position has paid off, but there are still aspects of his game he can work on, such as passing under pressure.

Maupay will no doubt be keeping a close eye on Everton results during his season away at Brentford, where he has managed to resurrect his career.

The Frenchman scored in the Bees’ 3-1 win against Luton Town earlier on Saturday (2 December) to make it two goals in his past four appearances.

That result was also huge for Everton as they are now within two points of Luton, so Maupay has in his own way played a helping hand in the Toffees’ fight for survival.

After a tough time of things at Goodison, it is good to see him enjoying his football again.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports reporter has provided an update on the possibility of another points deduction.
