Lewis McGugan claims 23-year-old is the ‘best player’ in Nottingham Forest’s squad.

Lewis McGugan has been discussing Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White after Saturday’s defeat to Everton.

As one of the better players in the squad, Gibbs-White often finds himself in the firing line with some supporters.

This season hasn’t really gone according to plan in terms of goals or assists but that hasn’t been through a lack of trying.

Gibbs-White scored his first goal of the season against Brighton over a week ago and he also got an assist in that game.

Still, he will be striving for more and it’s fair to say that McGugan is backing Gibbs-White to come good for Forest again.

McGugan discusses Gibbs-White form

It’s hard to call Gibbs-White when you consider he’s been banished out to the right wing this season.

Forest have been struggling with attacking options and Gibbs-White has been utilised in a wide area since Callum Hudson-Odoi picked up an injury.

McGugan rates the Forest star very highly and he believes that he will still come good this season.

He told the Forest Focus podcast: “It’s one of them I feel a bit of a connection because it’s kind of a similar role that I had at Forest. It’s a really tough one. We understand the relationship that he and the manager have but we all know that he didn’t spend the money to bring him to the club to play him on the right-hand side, that’s just obvious.

“I think if you like at Morgan’s creation. Technically on the ball, he’s the best player in the squad. Some of the stuff he can do with a football and the things that he can see is a joy to watch.”

Forest have to get Gibbs-White more central

It’s hard to fathom that Forest are now a Premier League club yet are still persisting with square pegs in round holes.

Gibbs-White has never played as a winger during his career and his current role doesn’t make a deal of sense.

The challenge staring Forest head coach Cooper in the face right now is how best to utilise Gibbs-White going forward.

Playing him on the right doesn’t look to make much sense and it’s a shame that he’s not playing more central.

Forest are losing games by playing three in midfield so surely now is the time for Cooper to try something a bit different.

Gibbs-White will always give his all wherever he plays but it’s crystal clear that he’s most effective when playing through the middle for Forest.
