26-year-old now wants to leave Nottingham Forest, Steve Cooper has barely picked him

Montiel won the World Cup and the Europa League last season and Forest picked him on loan from Sevilla.

It was anticipated that the 26-year-old would become the first-choice right-back but that simply hasn’t transpired.

Montiel wants to leave in January

This news comes from Tiro de Canto on X, formerly known as Twitter and claims that Montiel isn’t happy at the City Ground.

The player could be left in limbo somewhat, however, with the news that Sevilla are keen to sell Montiel should he return from Forest.

That would mean the La Liga club needs to find another buyer willing to take him at the mid-season point.

Given that Montiel has made just five appearances for Forest, it might not be an easy task to try and find a club willing to buy him next month.

Forest have failed Montiel

Okay, so the 26-year-old didn’t have the best of debuts in a Forest shirt but then neither did Renan Lodi last season.

After his debut, David Prutton claimed that he thought Montiel might struggle at Forest and he’s being proved right perhaps.

He went on to become a mainstay in the team and by the end of his loan, Forest fans were keen to see him return.

Montiel has been let down badly by Forest and it’s hard to imagine him playing any poorly than Serge Aurier has this season.

You rarely get a World Cup winner to sign for the club on loan and Steve Cooper could have perhaps managed this one better.

Still, he sees the players every day in training and clearly, he’s not been impressed with Montiel at Forest.

His time at the City Ground now looks to be over. That would leave Aurier, Ola Aina and Neco Williams to fight it out at right-back.
