Junior Firpo makes very important decision to leave Leeds United

Junior Firpo has reportedly made a ‘very important’ decision on his Leeds United future and that is to leave the club ahead of the January window – in order to save his Dominican Republic career.

Firpo, 27, returned from injury recently and was involved in four games in a row. Unused at Leicester as a sub, a sub against Plymouth, 90 minutes at Rotherham and then a sub in the win over Swansea City.

But he has picked up a hamstring strain and that saw him absent in the win over Middlesbrough. With the January window approaching, Firpo recently said that he chose to reject offers to remain at Leeds.

Firpo recently said on the Leeds United podcast that he would be playing in the 2024 Olympics with the Dominican Republic. Now, Estadio Deportivo report he has made a decision on his future at Elland Road.

Indeed, it is claimed he is ‘determined’ to make a change regarding his future in order to get the best out of his international career. It is also said he is very open to rejoining Betis, where Marc Roca is on loan.

He needs to go. Firpo is not even first choice at Leeds anymore, with Sam Byram producing consistently good form on the left side of the defence. He has been excellent for the Whites. Firpo can’t even stay fit.

He needs a change and a return to Spain with Betis would be a wonderful move for the defender. There have been suggestions that Betis’ left-back Juan Miranda could go to Milan. The move suits all parties.

Should he leave, he will need replacing. Given, he is the only recognised left-footed left-back. But, Firpo needs a change and Leeds need to sell him, really. Fingers crossed a deal can be done in January.
