We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Everton...

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana may still be closer to making his return to the first team, making him a doubt for the Newcastle game, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

Sky Sports journalist Vinny O’Connor reported on 30 November that the Belgian was training indoors along with Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The injury expert claims that alone is not an indicator that he’s close and a better one would be when he’s training with the first team for a number of days.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Goodison News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

“Him training indoors is not entirely a sign that he’s getting better and he may still be ruled out of the next one.

A better indicator will be that he’s in full team training for multiple days and even then it will require multiple games for him to reach full fitness.”

Onana has been in exceptional form this season for the Toffees and Sean Dyche will undoubtedly be missing the Belgian’s commanding presence in midfield.

James Garner has performed well in his stead and it remains to be seen if the axe is wielded on Idrissa Gueye when the 22-year-old does make his return to full fitness.

Thus far, he remains a doubt for the Newcastle game and all eyes will be on Dyche to confirm if he will be available or not.
