Paul Merson has made a prediction ahead of the Everton game against Chelsea on Sunday (10 December).

After the Toffees’ 2-1 loss to Manchester United, the commentator remarked in a live Sky Sports interview on Wednesday, December 6, that he would be “shocked” if the West Londoners defeated the team.

He continued by saying that he only saw a win for the Merseysiders if they “went after” Mauricio Pochettino’s team since you never knew who Chelsea will field given their patchy play this season.

“For me, honestly, you don’t know what you’re going to get,” said Merson.

“They go to Newcastle, second half blown away. They play Brighton, 2-1 up, Brighton have a man sent off, they dig in and get the result. Go to Man United tonight, they had chances but Man United had many more chances.

“I don’t know what team is going to turn up at Everton this week. I’d be shocked if they beat Everton at the weekend, I really would. If Everton go after Chelsea, I don’t see anything other than an Everton win.”

It is a game where Everton will certainly fancy their chances of picking up three points after what Chelsea have served up so far this season.

It appears to be one of the easiest teams to play against that the West London club have fielded in an awful long time as they sit 10th in the Premier League table.

Pochettino has shown he is a good manager in recent years, but he is struggling to find consistency at Stamford Bridge after taking over following a poor campaign last year.

There is still plenty of quality in their ranks, though, so Sean Dyche will be keen to emphasise to his players that they can still provide a threat from different areas.

It will be interesting to see how he sets his team up against them as it’s a game where the Toffees will be looking to get at the visitors and ensure it’s an uncomfortable afternoon for them at Goodison Park.
