You just noticed’ – MOTD pundit raves about Liverpool star who ‘made the difference’

Jermaine Jenas was a fan of Harvey Elliott’s contribution off the bench to help Liverpool beat Crystal Palace

Harvey Elliott’s impact appearance from the substitutes bench against Crystal Palace received full praise from Jermaine Jenas as the pundit hinted that Liverpool are true title contenders.

Saturday proved to be an excellent day for Jurgen Klopp and his squad. First they came from behind to beat 10-man Palace, then later Aston Villa’s own victory at Arsenal confirmed the Reds place at the top of the league.

Elliott was one of five substitutes that entered at different stages of the second half, having the ultimate say as he scored what turned out to be a 90th-minute winner.

Analysing the teenager’s role in the important victory on Match of the Day, Jenas explained how Elliott was the creator of his own fortunes.

“This is what he does brilliantly – he creates these overloads,” the ex-Spurs midfielder began. “It looks like really minimal stuff, but when teams go down to 10 men you’re always trying to create these margins.

His goal, what he does brilliantly here is he recognises the three-v-three, drifts into a position where nobody wants to come and mark him, has a good scan around and realises he’s in acres of space, then takes his time.

“He’s the spare man, give him the ball and now he’s positive. He could play it into Salah but he wants to take responsibility and gets his shot on goal. It was a brilliantly taken goal – first shot on target as well – but when he came on you just noticed a difference in how much it freed up Liverpool.

“They were poor for large portions of the game and he made the difference.”
