Gary Neville’s furious Manchester United comments now stand true about Nottingham Forest too

Gary Neville isn’t backwards in coming forward when it comes to critiquing Manchester United and some comments he’s made previously now ring true about some players at Nottingham Forest too.

The Sky Sports pundit is a huge United fan. He spent his entire career playing for the Red Devils and he’s desperately trying to use his platform to prise the Glazers out of Old Trafford.

Forest were thrashed 5-0 in midweek at Fulham and that led to Cooper making seven changes yesterday at Wolves. The Reds responded with a very spirited 1-1 draw.

The damage could now be done for some players though. It emerged last week that Joe Worrall has now been banished from first-team training, with some leaks emerging in the press that Leicester fancy him.

Neville famously went on a bit of a rant during an episode of The Overlap about players leaking things to the media. Now, some of those comments seem quite fitting for some of the current Forest crop.

He said on the show: “I think the biggest betrayal you can have in a football dressing room is when players or players’ representatives are going to the media to undermine the manager. That is honestly unacceptable.

“For me, on Monday and Tuesday when I heard these stories coming out, I thought, ‘Here we go again, they’re going to try and get another manager sacked’.

“I just think stop whinging, shut your mouths, work as hard as you can and then the day after you come back in and do it again.”

Players need to show commitment to Cooper

Someone has leaked news of Worrall and Scott McKenna being banished from training. Both of those players, particularly Worrall on a long-term contract, would love for a new manager to come in.

Ultimately the performances of the club captain weren’t deemed good enough in the eyes of Cooper and he’s dropped him. Worrall has enjoyed good performances for Forest in the past but right now he’s not in favour.

Cooper needs players like the ones who were on the pitch yesterday. They showcased the sort of determination that kept Forest in the league last season and they need it this time around too.

Hopefully, in January, some tweaks can be made to the squad. It would be nice to think that Forest can shift some players out and streamline the squad, whilst also adding a little bit of quality themselves.
