Crystal Palace target Trevoh Chalobah is still set to leave Chelsea in the near future, according to reports.

Trevoh Chalobah has not featured as much as he would have liked for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and the English defender has been linked with a move to Selhurst Park.

Chalobah may have shown some potential in the Chelsea side at various points, but it now clearly makes sense for him to look for a move elsewhere, with other defenders ahead of him.

This is where Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace comes into the fore ahead of a potential move for the defender either in the winter transfer window or the summer transfer window.

Romano on Chalobah

Speaking in his CaughtOffside column, Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the defender’s Chelsea future.

“One player we can expect to move on from their current club is Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah. It’s been clear for some time now that he will leave this January, after he came close to a move in the summer, though at the time he turned down an offer from Nottingham Forest,” Romano said.

“At the moment, however, I’ve been told there is nothing advanced with any particular club, despite recent links with Crystal Palace, while at points there have also been rumours about Tottenham.

“I’m not currently aware of any talks taking place, but that will happen soon, because Chalobah will be leaving Chelsea this January, for sure.”

Chalobah a Guehi replacement

Marc Guehi’s future at Selhurst Park is uncertain as the English defender has performed exceptionally well for the Eagles.

The defender earns around £50,000 a week at Chelsea according to Spotrac, which would be within Palace’s structure.

Alongside Joachim Andersen, Guehi has been exceptional for the South London side and the former Chelsea defender has featured for the England national team this season, too.

Hodgson’s Palace suffered a tough 2-1 defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasing Liverpool side but their defence, once again, looked strong despite the loss.

Chalobah would take the defence up another level and you wonder if the 24-year-old would be targeted if Guehi does leave the club next summer.
