BBC pundit Chris Iwelumo amazed by Georginio Rutter moment in Leeds United loss v Sunderland

Chris Iwelumo was left amazed at something he saw Georginio Rutter do as Leeds United fell to defeat at Sunderland.

The Whites’ impressive run of form came to an end at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday (12 December) as they were on the end of a 1-0 loss.

Rutter had a quiet game on the whole, but Iwelumo was full of praise for the forward after he created something from nothing in the first half.

Speaking as a co-commentator on talkSPORT’s live coverage of the game [12 December, 20:49pm], Iwelumo said: “I’m a massive fan of Rutter.

“Look at how he manipulates the ball there. He has no right to find himself basically running across the goal line coming into the six-yard box.

“He’s got three defenders [around him], but he moves the ball, finds the space and picks someone out at the end of it.”

Under threat

Rutter has really come into his own this season after struggling in his first six months or so at the club during last season’s relegation campaign.

The 21-year-old has been in particularly great form over the past few months, having scored four goals and assisted eight more in 20 games.

However, he could not make any sort of telling impact against Sunderland as he failed to find the target and was hauled off after 75 minutes.

Leeds United

The 10 unsuccessful touches he registered at the Stadium of Light, meanwhile, was a season high [WhoScored].

It is fair to say the Frenchman had an off-day, then, which is entirely acceptable when he has been as consistent as he has been.

The question Daniel Farke now needs to ask himself is whether to finally make any changes to the front four ahead of facing Coventry City on Saturday (16 December).

If that is the case, Rutter will just be hopeful it is not his place in the side that is under threat.
