Nottingham Forest could now launch January bid for ‘terrific’ Championship player

Nottingham Forest are now weighing up a bid for Hayden Hackney during the January transfer window. The Middlesbrough starlet has been watched by several Premier League outfits this season.

The Reds will go again in the transfer market during the January transfer window. No fewer than 13 players were added in the summer and the squad will be reshaped once again.

Forest-linked Hackney has earned praise from Michael Carrick for his performances this season, with the boss calling him ‘terrific‘. He’s played 20 times this season, with Boro picking up after a shaky start to the campaign.

Forest now considering January bid for Hackney

According to the Daily Mail, Forest are now considering testing the water in January for Hackney. Premier League scouts from a number of clubs have watched the midfielder, including the big six clubs.

Tottenham and Liverpool are both thought to be big fans of the youngster, with both likely to offer attractive packages. Forest, however, are considering making the first move for Hackney.

Hackney is a product of the academy at the Riverside Stadium and he’s grown under Carrick’s influence. The 21-year-old made 44 appearances last season as Boro were beaten in the Championship play-off semi-final.

Hackney would be viewed as one for the future

The fact that Forest had Ibrahim Sangare and Nicolas Dominguez as unused substitutes on Saturday tells a story. It says that the team are well-stocked in the engine room right now.

Hackney would be a nice signing for Forest to make but he would almost certainly be viewed as one for the future.

At 21-years-old, he does have something about him. He typically operates in a more defence-minded midfield role and would perhaps be viewed as a long-term replacement for Cheikhou Kouyate.

Hackney’s potential makes him an attractive signing for Forest. However, in the short term a loan back to the EFL might be ideal with his opportunities almost certain to be restricted at the City Ground.
