Everton defender Ben Godfrey could be making his first Premier League start of the season against Burnley on Saturday, 16 December.

Michael Keane is a serious fitness doubt for this one, according to Injury Expert Ben Dinnery, and a late fitness test will be required.

James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite have been the foundation of the defense, although Branthwaite has received five yellow cards and is now serving a suspension.

This could open the door for Godfrey, not just to be drafted straight into the Toffees eleven, but also show Sean Dyche why he deserves to be at the club for the long term.

He arrived to much fanfare at Goodison Park as he impressed for Norwich City and was ready to take the step up in his career.

At the time, he was lauded as a future England international and he did go on to make a handful of appearances for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions side.

He was an unused substitute in the recent 2-0 win over Chelsea and if Keane does not recover in time, the 25-year-old could make his way into the side.

Godfrey has proven in the past that his versatility can be used as an asset and it remains to be seen if Dyche can get the best out of him.

Most fans will not have been pleased with his form and fitness over the past few months and he could use this game as an opportunity to silence his critics.
