Sean Dyche names ‘FANTASTIC’ Everton player who he loves working with 😍

Sean Dyche has claimed that Abdoulaye Doucoure fits exactly how he wants Everton to play.

The 30-year-old joined Everton in 2020 and had been a regular in their midfield until Frank Lampard took charge.

The former manager didn’t seem to be much of a fan of Abdoulaye Doucoure last season, starting the two first games before he was dropped to the bench.

Doucoure looked set to leave the club following the expiry of his contract in the summer, but the arrival of Sean Dyche offered him the chance to revive his career at Goodison Park.

The midfielder has netted eleven goals since Dyche was appointed, including the only goal on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign to keep them in the Premier League.

He has become a key player under Dyche, and the 52-year-old has made his feelings towards Doucoure very clear.

Speaking on his tactical awareness to the Liverpool Echo, Dyche said: “I tried to come here with a front foot mentality and get the team to play on the front foot with that energy and commitment to press and break the game higher up the pitch… He is very good at that.

“I think it is a natural thing for him to do as well. It is not just his energy, it is his awareness, his tactical understanding, the passing lanes he gets to, the lines when he presses to stop the opposition from passing. Jack Harrison is very good at it as well.

“Some players adapt to it very naturally, some players have to learn it. I think Doucs has just enjoyed that. I think he is willing to do all of the work he does, and his commitment to the cause has been fantastic and, of his course, his goals. His quality to open up the game in different ways. He has been a shining light since I have been here and I have enjoyed everything he is doing and I think he is enjoying it as well.”

How good is Abdoulaye Doucoure?

Abdoulaye Doucoure has had an excellent 2023 and has been vital to Everton’s resurgence in recent months.

The 30-year-old’s versatility has been brilliant all over the pitch – bagging the most shots in the squad (28), the most successful dribbles (14), the second-most passes blocked (13) and the most key passes (22).

Doucoure rightfully earned himself a new contract in the summer and has proven his worth with some excellent performances this term.

Hopefully he can continue his form and carry on helping Everton climb up the table.
