A date for Nottingham Forest’s FA Cup replay with Blackpool has been confirmed.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds will go to Bloomfield Road next week to settle the third round tie. They came from behind to draw 2-2 with the Seasiders at the City Ground on Sunday but could not find a winner on the day.
The replay has been selected for live TV broadcast, to be shown on ITV4. And it is scheduled to be played on Wednesday, January 17, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
The trip to the west coast means Forest will have a shorter winter break than they had hoped. They were due to have a full fortnight between last weekend’s meeting with Blackpool and their next Premier League match, away to Brentford on Saturday, January 20.
Nuno sent key message as Nottingham Forest goalkeeper situation assessed
Head coach Nuno had planned to take his squad to St George’s Park for three days during the break. The focus was to be on double training sessions and team bonding as he looked to get his ideas across.
However, having to fit an additional game in meant the Portuguese having to rearrange his plans. And he spoke in the aftermath of Sunday’s draw about how he would be in favour of scrapping replays.
“It is a reality. Everybody is aware there is a big congestion of games and fixtures are every day. It is something they have to look at,” he said.
“If you ask me, I think it should be finished on the day – extra-time, penalties and whatever. Allow the players to have a little bit more time to recover.
Premier League teams are suffering with that. You know the issues with injuries, and one of the things is the amount of fixtures we are exposed to.”
On having to alter plans to go to St George’s Park, he added: “We have to reorganise that. When we decided that (going to St George’s Park) we looked at what was best for the team. Now what is best for the team is to start preparing for the replay in Blackpool – that is the priority.
“It is what you have to do. The priority is what is best for the team, and what is best for the team now is to have a small break and then start preparing for the replay.
“It changes the plan. Now we have to reorganise and we won’t get a break because now the priority is the replay in Blackpool. We have to reorganise our plans.”
The winners of the tie at Bloomfield Road will be away to either West Ham United or Bristol City in the fourth round. Fourth round ties will be played the weekend of Saturday, January 27/28.
