Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as Cyril Ngonge continues to attract Premier League interest
Nottingham Forest have reportedly joined the race to sign Aston Villa-linked Cyril Ngonge.
According to a recent report by Tutto Mercato Web, Forest is also monitoring the assailant. Apart from Villa, there are rumours of interest in Napoli, Fiorentina, and AC Milan.
They further state that Hellas Verona rejected a €10 million offer from Fiorentina because it was less than their estimated value of €12–13 million. Villa, meanwhile, is said to have submitted a €10 million bid to the Italian team as well.
This week, reports stated that Napoli had made “some contact” and that Milan was scheduled to begin negotiations with Verona regarding Ngonge. Verona is rumored to be willing to break away from the attacker should the right offer be made.
The report also points out that Leicester City are in the race, although the Championship is said to be an unlikely destination for the 23-year-old.
Speaking about Villa’s plans this window, boss Unai Emery said: “Last year was very, very different because we had other circumstances and we had in the squad different circumstances with some players. We decided more to let some players leave than sign players. This year is not the same because we have some players who are injured and we are playing in the Europa Conference League.
“I am thinking not a lot about it because maybe one or two players could leave, maybe but it’s not clear. If we are trying to get someone it is really because we are very convinced he is going to increase our level in the squad. It is not very clear in the January window to get it.”
