Lyon have reached an agreement with Everton loanee Arnaut Danjuma as he gears up for an exit from Goodison Park, according to Foot Mercato.
The French news outlet shared (11 January) that Danjuma is very excited by the Lyon project and is anticipating more starts at Les Gones ahead of Euro 2024 taking place this summer.
Lyon have reached an agreement with the player but it won’t be easy to terminate the loan agreement Villarreal has with Everton but the French club, threatened by the prospect of relegation, are advancing with the loan behind the scenes.
Give him starts
It will be massively disappointing to see a talented player leave Goodison Park and its not through any fault of his own.
Danjuma will feel massively let down by Sean Dyche because of his lack of starts and minutes at Goodison Park this season with the Everton boss favouring Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison.
His loan move to Goodison was supposed to be the chance to rejuvenate his career after a failed loan move at Tottenham last season but so far, it seems that trend is continuing in Liverpool.
When Danjuma has started or featured, he’s more than proved his quality without scoring or assisting proving that he can be the difference-maker the club needs, but those opportunities are too far in between.
It’s now wonder the on-loan Villarreal star wants to leave and seek game-time elsewhere and to join a club in such a desperate situation right now is very disappointing, especially when Everton will need him with McNeil potentially out of action with an injury.
There’s still time to convince Danjuma that he has a short-term future at Goodison Park and it’s important Dyche rewards him with opportunities, given his limited attacking weaponry right now.
The Toffees do not have the luxury of going out there and getting a quick-fire replacement should Danjuma leave the club this month so it could be quite costly and a bit silly to allow him to leave at such a crucial stage in the season.
