“My mind boggles” – Carlton Palmer takes aim at West Brom over Everton target
The teenage player has been shortlisted by the Toffees as a possible summer acquisition, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Fellows has established himself as a valuable member of Carlos Corberan’s squad at the Hawthorns this season.
He has made 14 appearances in the Championship, one of which was a start. Last weekend, he scored his first goal for the team in the 4-1 FA Cup victory over Aldershot Town.
Everton, however, is planning to sign the player as a free agent after the season since his contract is scheduled to expire in the summer.
Carlton Palmer criticizes Fellows’ deal at West Brom
West Brom has come under fire from Carlton Palmer for letting Fellows’ contract expire so that this may emerge
He thinks the Midlands team’s chances of keeping the player past this term will be difficult to overcome given Premier League money.
“Everton are the latest club, it has emerged, to show interest in signing West Brom’s talented youngster Tom Fellows this January transfer window,” Palmer told Football League World.
“The current campaign’s end marks the expiration of the 20-year-old’s contract.
“The young player has appeared in 14 Championship games for West Bromwich Albion this season, and manager Brian Corberan has praised his value to the team.
“A Premier League club is sniffing around him, so West Bromwich Albion needs to get a deal agreed upon quickly, but that is going to prove very difficult now.”
The Premier League clubs have the option to offer him a massive salary that surpasses that of West Bromwich Albion, and subsequently loan him back to the Championship.”
“It’s mind boggling how West Brom could have ended up in this predicament and allowed it to happen.
West Brom league position
|Championship Table (As it stands January 8th)
With three points more than the group of teams pursuing them outside of the play-off spots, West Brom presently sits fifth in the Championship standings.
With 13 points separating them from Ipswich Town in second place, the Baggies are still very much in the running for a top six finish.
Ever since taking over as manager at the Hawthorns in late 2022, Corberan has received high appreciation for his performance.
Despite internal financial problems, the Spaniard has the team battling for promotion to the Premier League.
West Brom’s next game is scheduled for January 13 at home against Blackburn Rovers.
Fellows situation a consequence of chaos behind the scenes
The financial issues at West Brom are well documented and this is likely a consequence of that chaos.
The 20-year-old has shown plenty of promise for the club, and losing him for nothing would certainly be a blow.
While he is far from the most important part of the squad, it is such a waste to develop him into a senior-level talent and then to let him walk away as a free agent.
The allure of the Premier League is likely to convince him to make that switch, and nobody could really blame him for that either.
