Everton: Sean Dyche shares Arnaut Danjuma exit news at Goodison Park as agreement reached for Lyon move
Sean Dyche insists Arnaut Danjuma is not on the verge of joining Lyon and is in contention to play for Everton against Aston Villa.
The Dutch forward posted an image of himself on an aeroplane on his personal Instagram account on Thursday (11 January).
That only heightened suggestions his loan from Villarreal was about to be cut short, with his agent confirming Lyon’s interest last week.
However, speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday (12 January), Dyche was adamant that is not the case.
“The situation is very simple: he’s an Everton player,” Dyche told reporters.
“He played the last game and has a fair chance of starting the next one. There isn’t really a story.”
Asked specifically about the photo of Danjuma travelling, Dyche joked the Villarreal loanee is simply a “modern player” and added: “I told him that it seems excessive to fly from Manchester to Liverpool just for training.”
This is turning into a bizarre situation. First came Danjuma’s agent speaking publicly about his client being open to an exit, which was fair enough given his lack of playing time.
Then Danjuma took to social media to ramp up the talk of a move to Lyon, only for Dyche to categorically rule that out.
The Everton boss fell short of stating that there is no chance of the Netherlands international leaving Goodison Park this month, but he is still available for selection for now.
With McNeil ruled out through injury, it could open the door for Danjuma to start on the left-hand side against high-flying Villa.
That could well prove to be his final game for the club should McNeil make a speedy return to fitness. Alternatively, it could prove a turning point in his time at Everton if he puts in a good display.
Either way, at least there is some clarity over Danjuma’s future… for now.
