Antonio Conte’s name has been gathering steam in relation to AC Milan’s managerial pursuit, with Stefano Pioli expected to leave after the season. Although hiring him would change the project, there are a few reasons why it might happen.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Conte has gone from a distant idea to a possibility in a short period of time. The 54-year-old would like to return to Italy and Milan are looking for a manager; anything can happen in between.

Although hiring Conte would be ‘breaking the pattern’ of Elliott Management and now Cardinale, as the report continues, there are three reasons why it could happen.

Milan’s recent struggles

Nobody has failed to notice that Milan is having trouble both with injuries and in crucial games. Consequently, even if the Rossoneri have achieved tremendous success off the field (sponsorships, etc.), the idea that was put up has never truly taken off.

Conversely, Conte would arrive with a distinct style of play and would not tolerate any player defying him. Not that Pioli condones this, but he has acknowledged that he defers much to his players’ judgment. Milan might use a tough, opinionated adult to mentor the youth.

Ibrahimovic’s opinion

There is no denying that Ibrahimovic has his sights set on Conte and that he wants a boss who will stop at nothing to win. In fact, the 54-year-old is at the top of the Swede’s wish list since he has always respected his character and outlook. It goes without saying that the two men are identical in that regard.

Given that Ibrahimovic is currently a top advisor to Cardinale and Milan, the significance of his remarks should not be undervalued. He and the American will be at Milan vs. Roma tomorrow night, and it’s inevitable that they will talk about the club’s future.

Perfect challenge for Conte

It would be the ideal task for Conte. Milan has a strong base with players like Maignan, Tomori, Theo Hernandez, Bennacer, Reijnders, Pulisic, and Leao, and he wants to establish himself in Italy once more. One of the best foundations in Italy, in fact.

The manager has improved lesser-known players in the past, so he is sure to know how to bring out the best in them. However, since he has historically desired prominent players, a lot will rely on how much he is ready to give up in terms of the market.
