Newcastle United could reportedly consider selling Jacob Murphy, who this season has caught the eye with the Magpies.

Before sustaining a shoulder injury this season, Murphy, a 28-year-old winger, made 36 Premier League matches in the previous season and has since established himself as a key member of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle team.

Murphy has excelled even though he has only made nine appearances for Newcastle this season; Alan Shearer praised the forward during a victory over Crystal Palace earlier in the year.

The Athletic, however, claims that Newcastle may now be willing to let go of the former Norwich City attacker since the Magpies must sell before they can make any January additions.

According to the source, there isn’t much interest in Murphy from transfer markets right now, so it’s likely that a Premier League team won’t be prepared to pay a reasonable price to acquire the Newcastle attacker.

Even if Newcastle could collect a fee, selling Murphy would seem like a step backward for the Magpies given how excellent of a servant he has been for the club recently.

Newcastle’s financial position has put the Toon in a difficult position, with some top players now potentially up for sale to help balance the books.

Yet in the case of Murphy, Newcastle shouldn’t be looking to sell the forward, with the 28-year-old showing that he is a valuable member of the Magpie’s senior squad.

Under Howe, Murphy has elevated his game to levels no Newcastle fan would have predicted, and to sell the forward now would feel like an injustice on all the attacker has done at St. James’ Park.
