Everton will settle their FA Cup third round tie against Crystal Palace with a replay at Goodison Park tonight – but fans will not be able to watch the match on TV.
The Blues played out a largely uneventful goalless draw at Selhurst Park on January 4. Dominic Calvert-Lewin was sent off late in the game following a controversial VAR review, but his subsequent suspension was overturned days later by the PGMOL following widespread criticism of the decision.
The original third round tie was televised on terrestrial TV but it is a different story when it comes to tonight’s replay. Broadcast rights for this year’s FA Cup have been split between BBC and ITV but following a dull encounter at Selhurst Park, neither channel has opted to show the replay.
Instead, ITV will be showing Blackpool v Nottingham Forest, while the BBC cameras were at Bristol City v West Ham United. FA Cup broadcasters have come under fire over many seasons for prioritising all Premier League ties for live broadcast instead of focusing on potential cup upsets and underdog fixtures.
Everton supporters will still be able to keep up to date with the action on the ECHO website via the live match day blog. Reporters Joe Thomas and Chris Beesley will be at Goodison Park providing match action updates as they happen.
Should the score remain level after 90 minutes this evening, 30 minutes of extra-time will be played and if necessary a penalty shoot-out to determine who will advance to the fourth round. The winners will be at home to Luton Town in the next round.
