Player connected to Everton “has agreed” to join Premier League team. According to reports, West Ham United has defeated Man City in the race to acquire Kalvin Phillips.
After spending up to £42 million to go from Leeds United to Manchester City, the midfield player has had an awful 18 months. With just 10 appearances this season, Phillips has been on the sidelines at Ethihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola, the manager of City, recently said that he did not see how Phillips fit into his goals. In order to make sure he stays in England’s team for the summer European Championships, the 28-year-old was eager to get regular playing.
A wide range of teams were connected to Phillips during the January transfer window. Everton was one of those teams, without a midfield player at the moment since Idrissa Gana Gueye is playing for Senegal in the African Cup of Nations and Abdoulaye Doucoure has a new hamstring injury.
According to reports, Newcastle United was also considering a loan for Phillips, but they were unwilling to shell out the estimated £7 million. Rather, talkSPORT speculates that Phillips will spend the remaining 2023–24 season with West Ham.
