- Leeds United and Sheffield United are set to compete for the signing of Everton defender Ben Godfrey.
- Leeds United have had a successful campaign in the Championship and are looking to strengthen their squad.
- Godfrey, who has limited playing time at Everton, could be a valuable addition to Leeds United’s defense.
Leeds United could be in a straight shootout with Premier League side Sheffield United for Everton defender Ben Godfrey, according to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards.
The Yorkshire side are currently having a very good campaign as they look to chase down the league’s top two.
Leeds are currently sitting in fourth place in the Championship with 54 points, five adrift of second-place Ipswich Town and nine ahead of fifth-place West Brom.

The Whites have been very quiet so far in this transfer window, as it seems the work done in the summer is enough for Daniel Farke to be confident that his team can get the job done.
However, with just over a week remaining before it closes for another six months, Leeds could still be active, especially when it comes to Godfrey.
Leeds United tipped for Sheffield United battle for Ben Godfrey
It was reported over the weekend by Italian outlet Calcio Mercato that Leeds United as well as Sheffield United and Serie A giants AC Milan are all interested in signing Ben Godfrey this month.
However, it has now been claimed by Luke Edwards of The Telegraph that Leeds and Sheffield United could be set to go head-to-head to win the race for the defender.
Edwards told the Transfer Gossip Daily Podcast, via Leeds All Over:
“So there are three options there. I would choose AC Milan all day every day. But I have a feeling this will come to a straight shootout between Sheffield United and Leeds United.
“It’s one of those debates which you can put yourself into as a football fan. These are three very different clubs, very different parameters, expectations and situations. I think it’s a brilliant three-way choice.”
Ben Godfrey’s stats this season
Everton are a side who have had their struggles this season on and off the football pitch.
The Toffees aren’t blessed with significant depth, but that has still seen certain players not get the game time they want or need.
Defender Godfrey is one of those players, as he’s only featured three times for the club in all competitions this season.
The 26-year-old has started one game in the Premier League, and that was in the win over Burnley last month. His only other start came in the EFL Cup game against Doncaster Rovers.
The defender has a contract that runs until the end of next season, but with him not being preferred under Sean Dyche, his time could be coming to an end.
Ben Godfrey would be an excellent signing for Leeds United
There is no doubt that Godfrey would be an excellent addition for Leeds United this month, as he’s shown what he is capable of in the Premier League.
Godfrey has been a good performer for the Toffees, but for whatever reason, he isn’t fancied under Dyche. Therefore, it seems a move is possible, and if he were to join the Whites, they would be getting a very good defender for the Championship, who can play in multiple positions.
Farke knows the defender very well from his Norwich days, so it seems to make sense, and he could find himself back in the Premier League in six months should he join.
