Latest Nottingham Forest news as Reds eye transfer deals before January window closes
Deadline day is fast approaching for Nottingham Forest as they look to get deals done before the January window closes on February 1.
In the last week or two of the window, the Reds still have a good amount of work ahead of them. They haven’t added any players this month, and they want to reduce the number of players under head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.
Nuno has made it apparent that Forest is working within a “difficult” window and that their wishes might not be fulfilled. As the deadline approaches, we examine the best and worst case possibilities for the Reds below.
This month was never going to call for a complete squad change. Furthermore, Forest’s determination to demonstrate to the Premier League that they take the accusations of breaking the Profitability and Sustainability regulations seriously has only served to focus their attention.
It would be wise business for them to close a few transactions with some new faces. The goal is to balance the inflows and outflows at the end of the month to either break even or turn a tiny profit. It would be ideal to accomplish that while making sure Nuno has enough strength in depth throughout the pitch.
The top end of the pitch is where the Reds are most in need of strengthening. They are said to have Ajax winger Carlos Borges and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Gio Reyna on their radar. It remains to be seen if deals get done, but the duo would offer competition and cover, and their versatility would be particularly useful.
